Description :At the beginning of 2001 Gruba forms itself out of the two former
“Schweisser” musicians Miene Gruba and Greulix as well as Ben Essen ex-
“FreakyFuckin Weirdoz\\\" They produce their own demo in April 2001
somewhere between the Munich Tollwood and the Kaunertal Longboard World
Championship they build up a faithful fan club aging from 5 to 95. Their songs
travel as far as Chile, Australia or Lower Bavaria and after heaps of positive
feedback, the guys/ they decide to hit the studio. In order to imagine what
kind of music this resulted in, you have to start thinking in new categories.
Imagine Madonna, The Police, Cyndi Lauper and The Clash sitting together over
a sportscigarette and a cup of tea, playing a round of Shithead. The realization
of Miene Gruber’s acoustic songs has nothing to do with the music these three
formerly played. They serve “chillout ska with electric guitar in offbeat
popcrust” Intimate but straightforward, authentic without being lofty / over-
emotional/ highsounding, pompous, these songs aren’t a manual on how to
live a life, they just recount on it. Miene G’s lyrics seem to gain each time you
listen to them, due to the pleasantness and lightness of the songs. They are
told from the positive point of view of an imperfect, life-loving person. A
soundtrack for all those of us looking for our own track through life
somewhere among the daily failures and triumphs. Regardless of all modern
trends the natural expression of the instruments was more important during
the production than any superfluous attempt of ingratiation with the zeitgeist.
Produced without frills and affectation by Björn S. (student of Bruce Swedien)
the studio album was complemented by a set of brass instruments played
Martin Kleindienst (sax)“Beanuts“ und Norbert Salih (Posaune)“Mirenda“ In this
combination Gruba can be seen and touched live in 2005. And: Gruba doesn’t
just stir your appetite. The poet and composer is already working on new
arrangements for the coming production. Prospectively the new tracks will be
recorded in autumn and will appear in spring of 2006. For further and current
